Blackened ash is our most architectural system — and a contemporary answer to what is otherwise a very traditional room. The timber is white ash, heat-treated so the colour runs right through the grain rather than sitting on the surface as a stain. It’s built to read as a single sculptural volume rather than a set of shelves, which is why it sits so naturally in contemporary residential interiors. It’s the system architects and designers reach for when the cellar is part of the room’s design, not hidden behind a door.
The black isn’t applied, it’s cooked in. Heat treatment takes the colour through the timber, so the grain stays visible and the finish never wears back to pale.
