Cedar is the timber the wine cellar was built on. Western red cedar, in its natural state — pale, soft-grained and aromatic — has been the cellar-maker’s timber for generations, and for good reason. It’s stable in the cool, humid conditions a cellar holds. It carries a scent that belongs in the room. And it ages gracefully, deepening in tone over the years rather than all at once.

The form is traditional. Our version of it is not. The joinery, the proportions, the way a run is set out and the way it meets a wall or turns a corner — these are ours, drawn and redrawn across three decades of building cedar cellars, and they are what separate a cellar you commission from a rack you buy.

For collectors who want the timber to speak for itself, this is the classic cellar, done properly.
