Shoji is unlike anything else we build. Designed by Robert Rolls, and unique to Cellar Creations.
Fine kumiko slats in natural Tasmanian oak are layered over one another, with Japanese washi paper and a backlit plenum void behind. The result is a wall that glows softly and reads in silhouette — an effect that has to be seen in the room to be understood.
It is at its best when it isn’t overfilled. Shoji is a system that wants to be seen, and the wine sits within it rather than covering it. The soft, warm light through the washi gives the room an ambience that few materials can — a beautiful nightlight in any interior, residential or commercial.
It works as a standalone feature cellar, or as cutaway feature sections set into traditional joinery. It is the system architects and interior designers ask for by name — and, as far as we know, it exists nowhere else.
Washi over backlighting is unforgiving — the framework has to be exact or the light gives it away. This is the system that takes the most hours, and shows it.
